On May 28th, we are joining forces with organizations, activists and companies from around the world to celebrate Menstrual Hygiene Day and break the menstrual taboo! #NoMoreLimits

Femme International is part of a global movement to raise awareness about the impact poor menstrual health and lack of access to menstrual products can have on menstruators around the world. Menstrual Hygiene Day is a global platform that brings together non-profits, government agencies, the private sector, the media and individuals to promote menstrual health management.

On May 28th, we recognize the challenges, and highlight solutions being implemented by civil society, government agencies and activists at regional, national and international levels.

The theme for Menstrual Hygiene Day this year is #NoMoreLimits, which speaks to the oppressive side of the menstrual taboo.

All too often, menstruation is seen as something that limits girls. It stops them from participating in religious or community events. It prevents them from attending school, or taking part in social activities. Girls are taught that menstruation is unclean and dirty, and they need to separate themselves from their families and friends during this time. The menstrual taboo is real, and it is destructive.

Girls around the world face many challenges, something as natural as her period should not be another thing that limits her from full participating in her daily life!

We believe it is time to change these attitudes, and we are doing it through conversation, education and activism.

Make a donation. When you donate a Femme Kit, you are ensuring that adolescent girls in East Africa have the opportunity to participate in the Twaweza Program, where they will learn all about their reproductive and menstrual health. They learn how to manage their periods each month in a safe way, that allows them to fully participate in their daily lives.

Are you looking for a way to get involved with Menstrual Hygiene Day?

Join the conversation. Use the hashtag #MenstruationMatters and #NoMoreLimits to share why you believe in breaking the menstrual taboo. The more we talk about periods, the more we can normalize the topic, and the less power the stigma holds.

Was there a time when you felt isolated during your period? Have you ever miss out on activities? How old were you when you got your first period? These stories are important to tell. Join the global conversation and help us break the menstrual taboo – finally!

Wear your period pride! Rebel Kate believes in empowering women through better period products and fun, feminist apparel. We are (obviously) especially fans of their Rainbow Uterus collection – what a fun and cheeky way to show your feminist pride and help break the menstrual taboo.

In honour of Menstural Hygiene Day, Rebel Kate is donating 10% of proceeds from the Rainbow Uterus collection to support Femme’s work in East Africa! Use code FEMME for 10% off of your order.

We have proudly been partners with Ruby Cup since 2013, and are one of their donation partners of their wonderful Buy One, Give One Campaign!

This month, for every Ruby Cup that is sold, TWO are being donated to women and girls in need, through Femme’s Twaewza Program. If you have ever wanted to try a menstrual cup, this is the time to purchase one! Your period choices have an impact on the planet, on your body and has the power to make a big difference in the lives of women in East Africa.
