RUBY CUP

Ruby Cup is a menstrual cup company with a social mission. Founded in 2011 by a trifecta of strong women (Maxie Matthiessen, Veronica D’Souza and Julie Weigaard Kjær), Ruby Cup is committed to providing a sustainable and healthy menstrual hygiene solution to women and girls worldwide. Aside from being an award-winning venture, Ruby Cup runs a Buy One, Give One campaign to provide Ruby Cups to women and girls across Africa by partnering with local organizations.

Femme and Ruby Cup have been working together since 2013, and in 2014 Femme became a priority partner.

If you are considering making the switch to a menstrual cup, consider buying a Ruby Cup. For each cup purchased, Ruby Cup donates one to a woman in East Africa!

GROOVE

Groove is period and fertility tracking app that is committed to helping women understand their natural cycles and how their bodies work.

Groove is on a mission to redefine what it means to work in women‘s health, and is committed to empowering people with education and tools to help them learn about and manage reproductive health.

Groove has been a corporate partner of Femme since 2015, and donates 10% of all proceeds to Femme’s programming.

GRID

Gaming Revolution for International Development (GRID) is a social venture that aims at leveraging the power of games to inspire behaviour change.

Femme and GRID have partnered together to bring MoHiM – a game designed to teach menstrual health in a private and interactive way – to 3,500 students in Nairobi.

SUSTAINABLE SANITATION ALLIANCE

SuSanA is an informal network of people and organisations who share a common vision on sustainable sanitation and who want to contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, in particular SDG6. Learn more about our definition of sustainable sanitation here.

SuSanA came into existence in early 2007. Since then, it has been providing a platform for coordination and collaborative work. SuSanA connects members to a community of people with diverse expertise and opinions. SuSanA also serves as sounding board for innovative ideas. Finally, SuSanA contributes to policy dialogue through joint publications, meetings and initiatives.

The SuSanA website – with its library, project database and discussion forum – is an important resource for anyone wanting to explore the possibilities of sustainable sanitation.

SuSanA is not itself an organisation but a loose voluntary network to which partners and individual members contribute at their own expense.

The secretariat is currently carried out by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in Eschborn, Germany. More about the setup of SuSanA is explained here.

PERIODO SOLIDARIO

Periodo Solidario aims to improve the quality of life of women globally and reduce the environmental impact generated by menstrual products through education and innovation.

On July 10th 2019, we joined forces with Periodo Solidario, an awesome new social business with a feminist outlook and a menstrual cup. We’ll be working together on advocacy for period poverty and improving access to menstrual cups and health education in East Africa.

Proceeds from Periodo’s menstrual cup sales will support the Twaweza Program, so check them out!

MERCY MUSHI

Mercy is a Tanzanian Global Advocate working with Mama Hope, an organization which builds unique relationships with their local partners in order to effectively respond to their needs and vision.

Mama Hope’s Human Centered Development model brings together social entrepreneurs, NGOs, and many other organizations to ensure communities have access to the holistic, 360-degree solutions needed to support sustainable growth.

As Tanzania’s first Global Advocate, Mercy will be working in the village of Mlali, near Dodoma, where she will be delivering the Feminine Health Empowerment Program to the students within the community. By the end of 2016, Mercy aims to deliver education and Femme Kits to 500 girls.

KILIPADS

KiliPads is a social enterprise of women manufacturing and selling reusable sanitary pads in the village of Msitu wa Tembu, Kilimanjaro. The reusable pads are made with locally-sourced materials and are sold to women and girls in the community. Beyond profits, the business aims to provide an accessible, appropriate and affordable way for women to manage their menstruation with dignity. The product is introduced to women in the village alongside menstrual health education workshops in order to break the menstrual taboo and dispel misinformation about periods.

In early 2015, the women of KiliPads were trained by Femme on how to teach menstrual health in their communities. Femme empowered the women to host seminars in local schools, create safe spaces for beneficiaries, and share essential reproductive health information. Since then, the KiliPads team has reached 319 women and girls in rural schools around Msitu wa Tembu!

In September 2016, Femme and KiliPads established a partnership to provide participants of workshops in Msitu wa Tembu with a package of KiliPads after each workshop! This will give women and girls a safe and sustainable method of managing their menstruation, and removing the financial burden of menstruation. We are so proud to be working with this extraordinary group of women!
