PASS MHW Project
In 2020, partnership with the Mwanza Intervention Trials Unit (MITU) and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) has received a 3-year research grant to implement and evaluate a menstrual health intervention, a first-ever in Tanzania.
This study has two main goals. The first is to evaluate an NGO-led, comprehensive menstrual health intervention in schools. This intervention includes education workshops, minor WASH improvements, reusable menstrual products, better pain management, and inclusion of boys to more holistically address the issues resulting from menstruation.
Knowing that such programes are only useful if they are both sustainable and scalable, the second goal is to work with local government to determine the best strategies to partner and imbed such interventions within government structures and systems, creating a model that can be replicated with hybrid partnerships between governments, NGOs, and funders.
